Alderman Bennett Lawson Endorses José “Che-Che” Wilson for Cook County Commissioner
CHICAGO — Alderman Bennett Lawson (44th Ward) has endorsed José “Che-Che” Wilson for Cook County Commissioner in the 12th District, joining a growing coalition that includes Alderwoman Ruth Cruz (30th Ward) and Alderman Lamont Robinson (4th Ward). Lawson’s endorsement further solidifies Wilson’s deep support among LGBTQ+ leaders and neighborhood advocates across the North Side.
“I am pleased to endorse José ‘Che-Che’ Wilson for Cook County Commissioner for the 12th District because he is rooted and grounded in values important to our community,” said Ald. Lawson. “With deep experience advancing LGBTQ+ rights and civic engagement, Che-Che is dedicated to uplifting every resident of the 12th District. From connecting thousands of neighbors to life-saving care to standing up for transparency in our government, he’s shown what genuine public service looks like. Che-Che will bring fresh energy, integrity, and accountability to the Cook County Board.”
Wilson welcomed the endorsement with gratitude.
“Alderman Lawson has been a steadfast champion for LGBTQ+ residents and for a more inclusive city,” said Wilson. “His support reflects the momentum behind this campaign and our shared belief that county government must show up for people with dignity and urgency.”
Lawson made his endorsement at Wilson’s National Coming Out Day fundraiser at Hydrate, where a host committee of LGBTQ+ and civic leaders came together in support of his campaign. The event brought together residents, activists, and elected officials to celebrate community and discuss the issues shaping the 12th District.
